All of our products are made to order and being crafted from 925 grade Sterling Silver we have to send them to the Assay office to be tested and stamped with our hallmark.
This gives you the peace of mind to know that your jewellery is genuine silver but is also a legal requirement in Great Britain.
Now the Assay office are the most efficient and quite frankly, the most delightful people to deal with but with the best will in the world the time to hallmark an item is four working days so obviously this will impact on our delivery time to you.
Please keep this in mind when placing an order. If you have a genuine emergency and you really need an item quickly, let us know preferably by telephone and we will endeavor to speed up the process.
The assay office will expedite a quicker delivery but there will be a cost involved which we will have to pass on to the customer.
Most items will take from 10 working days to despatch from time of order but allow 15.
We will not charge your card until your item is despatched.
Taking measurements is always a little tricky but if you stick by some easy and obvious rules the pain can be removed.
Wrist sizes:
To measure your wrist the best way is to use a tape measure and fit it snugly to your wrist but not tightly.
Look at the measurement and then add an inch for comfort and you have your bracelet size.
If we ask for exact wrist size then please just give us that, don't in that case add the inch.
Because of chain patterns and design differences there may be up to a quater of an inch leeway on size so a 7.5" bracelet may work out to 7.75".
Alternatively take a similar item you already own and and like the fit of. Measure from the inside edge of the clasp to the inside edge of the catch and you have the bracelet size you want.
Neck Size:
Necklaces really are personal taste and we would recommend that you look at an item you already own and use that as a measurement guide to the kind of drop you wish to aquire from one of our products.
Remember to take into account the difference between a necklace and a choker.
Postage will be by Royal Mail Recorded or Special Delivery in the UK.
Royal Mail will require a signature as proof of delivery, so please provide a delivery address which is most convenient for you.
All postal charges are at the rate set by the Post Office.
Gold Fill or Rolled Gold
Gold Fill, Gold filled or Rolled Gold is often confused with Gold Electroplate.
Gold Electroplate or plating is a chemical based process where the article is immersed in a gold containing solution and an electric current is passed through the solution. This causes the gold in the solution to deposit in a thin layer on the article. The actual thickness of gold is controlled by the amount of current and time. In many instances the thickness of gold deposited is minimal and in this case it can be easily worn away.
Gold Fill is a layer of gold physically bonded by heat and pressure to another layer of metal normally brass. The layer of gold is much thicker than a normal electroplated coating. Gold fill is usually referred to by numbers ie 14/20 or 12/20. The first number is the carat of the gold layer, the second refers to the amount by weight of the gold in relation to the base layer. In these examples the gold layer is 1/20th or 5% by weight. Because of the manufacturing process of Gold Fill it limits the type of components that can be made. For instance the material cannot be cast since melting it would destroy the layers, therefore the range of findings is more limited than carat gold. However, where the same components are available Gold Fill can represent an economical alternative to carat gold.
We use only 14/20
Gold fill is not well known in the UK. We import ours from America where it is far more popular.
It is not like Gold plated and there is approximately 100 times more gold in gold fill than there is on gold plated wire.
The gold is hundreds of times thicker than gold plate and makes up between 5% and 7% of the total metal giving a beautiful appearance and allowing us to offer you the beauty of gold at a fraction of the price.
That's not to say that Gold Fill is cheap. Gold fill wire is twice the raw material price of Sterling silver wire and is known to be hard wearing with Victorian examples still looking as beautiful as they did originally.
We are happy to undertake full gold commissions but be aware the price will reflect that and be many times that of our current range.
